  • What should I bring to the lesson?
During the lesson, you can bring a pair of drum sticks and a folder to store my lesson's handouts. Sticks will also be provided but it is recommended to have your own sticks that will fit your hands better.
  • What is the language of instruction?
The lesson can be provided in English, Cantonese and Mandarin. I am able to speak English proficiently and have years of experience in teaching English-speaking students. I have taught students with different nationalities including British, German, Romanian, Brazilian, Indian, Latvian, Chinese, Taiwanese etc.
  • Have you done enhanced DBS check?
    Yes.
  • Can I still learn drums if I'm not "musically inclined"?
Some people are born with better listening skills and a better sense of rhythm. However, all people can achieve this by learning how to read music. It can helps to figurate out all the complex rhythms so that your ears can be trained up. Many professional drummers from all over the are not born with a natural "talent." What they have are passions and dedications. So, therefore, the answer is YES!
  • Do you teach grade exams?
I obtained the Grade 8 Drums Certificate from Trinity many years ago and I am qualified to teach drums exams of any grade. I also have years of experience in helping students prepare for their exams in both Rockschool and Trinity. However, I suggest students learn under my teaching system instead of preparing for these exams in any normal case. That's because you can better utilize the time to learn new skills rather than using the time to prepare for the exams that are more suitable for students who need academic credits or other certifications.
  • Am I too young or old for the lessons?
I have experience teaching students from 3 years old to even 80 years old. People of every age can learn music. However, you need to understand the systems and logic behind the drums and music theory to attain a proper progression. I would suggest students start to learn drums when they are in primary school. But of course, there are no age limitations for my drum lessons!
  • Do you only teach in Patchway?
I also teach in a studio in Wokingham, Berkshire. The address is Forge Grove, Wokingham RG41 1AZ. I also can teach in students' homes with additional transportation cost.
  • How can I practice drums after the lesson?
If your home has enough space, you can buy an electronic kit to practice your drumming (the cheapest one is under £200). The touching of electronic kits is slightly different from the acoustic ones but it is sufficient to practice to the advanced level. If not, you can buy a drum practice pad for practice. It is also good equipment to practice your technique. If you have a higher budget, you can soundproof a room and fit an acoustic drum kit in it!
